Ladies and Gentlemen of the DASC,

It has just come to my attention that there may be some confusion on
DASC membership, caused in great part to some inaction on my part.
Please allow me a moment of your time to rectify that confusion and to
apologize for my part in it.

We used to publish our roster for all to see at the URL
http://www.dasc.org/DASC_members.html. However, it was decided that
doing so represented a security and privacy issue, since spammers could
easily harvest the email addresses on this roster. At the time of this
decision, I should have but did not remove the page, which has lead to
at least one case of potential confusion. One former DASC member
observed that he was on the list as published at the above URL, leading
him to think that he was still a member of the DASC when in fact his
membership had expired.

Let me state that DASC membership is on an annual basis, with membership
running from 1 January to 31 December of each year. If you have not
paid since December 2002, you'll need to rejoin. If you're not sure
whether you're a member, please let me know and I'll verify your status.

The membership application is at
http://www.dasc.org/dasc_memberhsip_application.html. The cost is $40.
As a service to the membership, we have historically taken care of the
administrative burden of becoming an IEEE-SA member (required for
standards balloting). If you wish us to take care of your SA membership
for you, then remit $50 and indicate on the membership application that
you wish us to sign you up as an IEEE-SA member--note that you must be
either a member of the IEEE or Computer Society to become an SA member
at the price of $10.

I have also removed the old membership list, thereby both removing the
source of confusion and removing the ability of spammers to harvest
addresses from this list.

Thanks for your time and sorry for the confusion,

Paul
