Dear colleagues,
The publications folks at IEEE-SA would like to develop a standards product
for DASC standards based on their VuSpec format. This is a CD-based
multimedia product incorporating the standards documents and related
machine-readable data, plus other related material in a variety of formats
(see outline below).
I would like to get some ideas from DASC members about what you might like
to see on such a product. As a start, I'd suggest the current versions of
DASC-sponsored standards, WG-approved drafts of new standards and revisions
in development, and contributed tutorials and interpretative material. I'd
suggest we aim for an annual update of the product (assuming IEEE-SA would
agree to that).
Please forward your suggestions to me at mailto:peter@ashenden.com.au, and I
will collate them with Damon.
I believe this is an exciting opportunity to make our standards more usable
and of benefit to our community. Thanks in anticipation of your input.
Cheers,
Peter Ashenden

However, based on what I heard yesterday, I'd still like to devote some resources to producing a VuSpec product. This is a Flash based IEEE Stds product on CD-ROM featuring the stds and WHATEVER ELSE YOU AND THE DASC COMMITTEE CAN DREAM UP! I'm serious. Please push the envelope, take me up on my challenge. For 2005, we can include video, tutorials, multimedia content, executable code, UML, HTML, as long as we work together to reduce costs. I will be able to absorb the bulk of the costs. What I need from DASC is content, valuable content behind and surrounding the stds... it might be a video, a framing introduction, a few graphics, illustrations, examples, whatever you think will best assist the DASC stds users past, present, and future. Looking forward to a DASC VuSpec in 2005, --- Damon E.
