Dear colleagues, Please refer to the attached letter from the Chair of the IEEE-SA Standards Board Patent Committee (PatCom) to Sponsor and WG Chairs regarding patent policy. This pertains to discussions we've had in recent DASC-SC meetings about the DASC patent policy. The letter makes it quite clear that we are prohibited from deviating in any way from the IEEE-SA prescribed policy, as we do in item 6 of the DASC procedures (see www.dasc.org/procedures/). I'd therefore propose that this clause of the DASC procedures be interpreted as being in conflict with item 6 of the IEEE-SA Standards Board Bylaws, and that the latter take precedence. Next time we revise the DASC procedures, we should either strike our clause 6, or reduce it down to a reference to the SASB bylaws. Comments? Regards, Peter Ashenden DASC Chair -- Dr. Peter J.
