IEEE 1603 WG update

July 27, 2006

General:

The work over the past year has been focused on validation and
application of the standard rather than extension.

Milestones:

(1) Creation of an open source ALF reference implementation with the
following features:

- IEEE 1603-2003(tm) compliant lexical parser, syntax parser,
and semantics checker

- Bidirectional translator from and to de-facto industry
library formats such as Liberty(tm)

Results:

- Validation of IEEE 1603-2003 as a fully implement-able spec.

- Uncovered very few minor inconsistencies that can be
published as errata or comments

- Found that the semantics of library models expressed in
Liberty are fully encompassed in IEEE 1603-2003(tm)

(2) Study of applicability to new fields such as radiation hardness

Results:

- Whitepaper by Alex Zamfirescu (Alex plans to attend the
meeting, he can provide more info if needed)

-

(3) IEEE 1603-2003 got IEC accreditation.

Plans moving forward:

- Publish errata and application notes

- Validate the IEEE 1603-2003 semantics wrt emerging industry
needs (e.g. Liberty ECSM, CCS extensions)

- Implement and validate the radiation hardness extensions

Discussion items for DASC meeting:

Find out whether www.eda.org <http://www.eda.org/> is still the
preferred portal to DASC-sponsored standards and provide administrative
access as necessary.

Advise to which extend the work on IEEE 1603-2003(tm) is suitable for
publication under the DASC umbrella.

Should it be restricted to the formal revision of the standard (errata
etc) only?

Is it desirable to publish the informative collateral (open source code,
application notes etc) under the DASC umbrella?

Would this create any ownership issue (as the access to open source code
is not restricted to DASC members)?
