Dear Peter: Your fix is not equivalent to what was done before (thanks for checking the history of established procedures). When the returning officer gathered the position statements and submitted them with the ballot all at once, the effect was similar to a "blind bid," where no one could take advantage of seeing first any other statement. What you offer as a fix/alternative is not a vote on a ballot containing position statements, but an open campaign during the voting period, with candidates being able to act on early postings. It seems to me that a much better solution would be to put the vote on hold, provide for a three day position statement submission, and call for the vote on a ballot which includes position statements. Kind regards, Alex Zamfirescu P.S. The lack of objection in 2005 was probably due to the fact that there was no more than one candidate per position. Today I would argue that even for the positions where only one candidate was nominated, it is still interesting for our members to see a position statement. If you promise to do something, you have a better chance of doing it indeed.
